@DWalker

On the one hand, you clarify that Governor Romney was not pro abortion or pro gay, and you seem to take issue with people who would paint him as pro abortion or pro gay. I understand this clarification, but it is interesting given what you say directly after.

You say that Obama is a person who believes that a baby who accidently survives a parital-birth abortion attempt should be allowed to be murdered thereafter. But if we applied the exacting standard of language you wish to be applied to Governor Romney, we would have to call this a distortion; for Senator Obama does not think that babies which survive abortions should be murdered; he just fails to support legislation that would protect them from being murdered.

I personally welcome Gov. Romney into the pro-life camp; but I would like to see a little more from him in terms of a track record.

Everyone seems to be reading something into my earlier post that is not there. First of all, I did not say Huckabee was BEHIND the gross distortions in the Romney smear, and they distortions. I've checked into it carefully. But as we know know facts are not what drive polictical winds. They are driven by belief. The smear campaign is dishonest. He has never been PRO abortion or PRO gay. It's all about spin, half truths nad downright lies. I think the whole anti-Romney thing is more about bigotry than actual substance. Do any of these detractors mention that Mitt voted against embryonic stem cell reasearch even though his wife has MS. Of course not. But why not? How much more convincing do people need about his sincerity? Research his actual voting record. Secondly, did I say Mr. Huckabee could MAKE anyone do anything? I did not. I just want to know if he would encourage his followers to continue to support McCain if Romney is the pick for VP? There seems to be a group of evangelicals that say they would not. What are they going to do? Vote for Obama? Or effectively vote for Obama by staying home? Get real. Are we going to allow a man(Obama)who believes that a baby who "accidently" survives a partial-birth abortion attempt should be allowed to be murdered, thereafter. I think the whole "movement" against Romney is disingenuous - a manipulative ploy. Those who say they won't support McCain if Romney is on the ticket can't be serious if they are so concerned about the unborn. It's simply not a believable position. And as for the whole Mormon thing, that has nothing to do with anything I'm talking about, nor should it. Unless, of course, one is a bigot. I am not. But as long as we've brought that up, Romney would have been excommunicated if he'd ever voted in favor of abortion, or if he ever does.

I supported Huckabee with both money and volunteer efforts from August 2007 until the end of his campaign. I did not agree with him on every single issue and did not idolize him as a man. Overall, however, I considered him as the best major party presidential candidate of my lifetime (and I turned 70 last December).

The percentage of evangelical Christians that supported Romney was much higher than the percentage of Mormons that supported Huckabee. In fact, several polls showed that Mormons voted for Romney overwhelmingly
(above 90% in at least a couple of states). My main reason for not supporting Romney was his past support for pro-abortion and pro-homosexual policies and his unconvincing "conversion" to a social conservative record.

DWalker, Mike Huckabee is not in control of evangelists who choose to make their own minds up about Mitt Romney, so how can he call them off? Mike Huckabee himself has been far more tolerant and measured in his responses to this kind of accusation than most of his supporters, and has been teaching us a little about grace in the meantime.

he people who are saying they don't like Mitt Romney (including myself) do so because that is honestly how they feel, not because Mike Huckabee has told them to feel that way. If Mike Huckabee had not been in the campaign, it would not have changed my opinion of Romney, because I can't help but see the flip-flopper in him.

A weather vane just isn't of much help in moral and political issues, and I see that as his main source of decision-making even now as he campaigns with his once-despised adversary. Yes, that may get him put on the ticket, but it won't win my vote this time.

I have voted for Mormon candidates in the past in my home state, and even felt they earned my respect and vote, but Mitt never will. So please stop barking up the descrimination tree. The reason people don't like Mitt is because of Mitt himself.

This whole idea would be great if someone else came up with it. It's just a four year long ad campaign and turns my stomach. At least he's not making an independent run this cycle. What I want to know is this: would Huck support Romney if he were put on the ticket and call off the dogs (his evangelical buddies who are hell bent on smearing Gov.Romney?)
